This past two weeks have been some of the most exciting of my life. I went to Ireland for a Fantasy Writing Workshop by Best Selling Author (and instructor extraordinaire) David Farland. Wow.
Every day was filled with a chorus of 12 writers asking question and discussing the craft and the business. Black coffee and creamy lattes in grey cups marked Insomnia were our daily companions. Dave patiently answered all the questions.
Each writer brought something unique perspective to the class. American, Scottish, and Australian accents enhanced the fabulous stories we heard this week. The authors themselves a kaleidoscope of personalities from passionate red to reserved blue.
Each night, the tapping of fingers against my keyboard filled the 120 year old b&b, three-bed room I shared with my teenage sons. The golden room and cream crown molding provided a fantastic backdrop for each night’s assignments.
Between the workshop and homework each evening, my sons and I made a wonderful trip into Dublin. The bustle of the busy modern streets contrasted with the quiet awe of the Long Room library of Trinity College. The scent of ink and parchment enhancing the golden light on the many bookshelves. My spirit soared.
