Getting to the point of publishing a book has a lot of scary moments. I frequently have people say things to me like, “I don’t know how you did it. I would be so scared to put myself out there.” or “I am terrified to find out whether anyone would buy my book. How do you do it?”

Here are the top three things that give me courage:

  1. I remember why I write. I have had this story in my head for months. You might have heard me say that a story is like a prisoner caged in my mind. I have to free him or just screams in my mind. Writing it down helps me let it go.
  2. I remember for whom I write. I write for my kids. I will get my novel done because THEY want to hear the story. I hope many others will too, but they need to see me put in my best work and get it published.
  3. I have a vision of where I want to be and what I want to do when I retire from my current work. The Creator has plans for me and I want to embrace them!
