The Power of Intention
The rain has been falling all night. The dank smell of moisture earth mixes with the dirty brown and yellow leaves 🍁 . As I sit in my car this morning, I listen to the PAT-PAT-PAT of drops on the roof and it is deafening. More input. More stimulation. I turn my phone off and close my eyes. I need to create intention in my day. That’s where the magic is.
There are a ton of thoughts running through my head. All of the to-do’s on my list momentarily overwhelm me. PAT-PAT-PAT. And then I focus on the rain. I stop fighting it and I leverage its rhythm to empty my mind. The harshness becomes gentleness. pat-pat-pat. It’s as if the raindrops are playing a childhood game. I listen for a while.
What do I value most and where do I want to take my life? Images come to me quickly. The first images are cluttered and filled with detail. Some things need to get done, but they are not the most important things. I focus on just three things for today. I picture the life I want and the images simplify.
I open my eyes – what was a meleé of thoughts running chaotically through my mind, now ordered. The warmth of this morning‘s coffee hits me. I take a moment to breathe in its chocolatey aroma and speak intention into my life. Out loud.
Today, I will be present with my family, connect with people in uplifting ways, and make progress on my novel.
What intention will you speak into your life today?
