Where did AJ disappear? To The Quill’s Lair to write “Quest for the King”
Sorry I disappeared on you! I have been hiding out in The Quill’s Lair (the office where I do my writing–where the magic happens!) working on something really exciting, and I can’t wait to tell you about it! I worked on my trade-craft and finished a book!
Classes in The Quill’s Lair
First, I have been getting a wonderful education over the past few months. No–I didn’t go back to college, but I have been honing my skills by taking a few classes to improve my writing. I took classes on grammer, and point of view, but one of the most fascinating was a Writer’s Digest University online course called, You Want to Get Published? Learn How to Write a Great Query and First Chapter Boot Camp. I learned a lot about how to engage agents, what needs to go into a synopsis and a query letter, and made some agent contacts that are invaluable.
Knowledgeable Colleagues in The Quill’s Lair
I have also learned a tremendous amount about editing from another author, Heather Sutherlin. I strongly encourage you to reach out to other authors and learn what you can from them. It will improve your trade-craft.
The Outcome from time spent in The Quill’s Lair
Finally, I have spent the last three months in the Quill’s Lair working hard and co-authoring Quest for the King, with Heather. It is a 60 day devotional written as a medieval fantasy novella, and I am SO excited! Just last week, we completed the work on it (writing, revisions, editing…), and its first five pages, along with a synopsis and a query letter went to an agent for consideration! I hope you will take a look and comment at the bottom of the page, or send me a scroll! Your feedback is invaluable!
